§ 03
Protocols

Before you ship.

P.01What devices do you accept?
Most handheld electronics: phones, handheld consoles, controllers, portable audio, calculators, cameras, pagers. Working or not; dead devices make perfectly good specimens. Keyboards and home consoles too, in our larger frames.
P.02What about my data?
Please factory-reset phones and media players and turn off any activation or Find My locks before shipping. We never power on, access or recover data from submitted devices; storage chips are mounted as components, not read.
P.03How are batteries handled?
Every battery is fully discharged and its terminals sealed before mounting. Swollen or damaged batteries can't be shipped or mounted; if one arrives, it's recycled responsibly and noted on the plate as removed for safety.
P.04What if something breaks?
Decades-old plastic and ribbon cables can be fragile. We work slowly and carefully, but if a part breaks during dissection it's preserved and mounted as-is. That's part of the specimen's record.
P.05When will my spot open?
Queue spots open in the order received. Once your device arrives, 3–4 weeks from intake. A plate proof, if you request one, adds a few days. Need it by a date? Note it in the form.
P.06How does payment work?
Nothing is charged to join the queue. When your spot opens, a 50% deposit reserves the bench; the balance and insured return shipping are due before it ships home.
P.07What does shipping cost?
You cover getting your device to the lab; packing instructions arrive when your spot opens. The finished piece comes home insured, double-boxed and corner-protected. Larger frames ship in larger boxes, so return shipping depends on your size and address. We quote it when we reach out to accept your submission, before anything is charged.
